"Lobster now represents 80% of Maine’s commercial fishing income. Where overfishing has led to the decline of other Maine fisheries such as cod, haddock and halibut, smart lobster fishing conservation measures coupled with a lack of predators for lobsters has helped preserve the lobster stock. For every lobster that comes onto the market, approximately three are sent back into the water for conservation.
