All the oddly-matched elements in this bewitching landscape come together so naturally, Dawna, that you might have planned it that way. One specific question: was the original Parish Church constructed of brick--despite the Greek Revival style--or did its 19th-century restorers make that choice? The 'shot of moss and leaf across its bow' provides a fitting commentary to this revered site. May it--and you--have a good year ahead.

Artist's Description

The Old Sheldon Church Ruins is a historic site located in northern Beaufort County, South Carolina, approximately 17 miles (30 km) north of Beaufort in the Sheldon area. Known also as the Sheldon Church or Old Sheldon Church, the pre-existing building was originally known as Prince William's Parish Church. The church was built in the Greek Revival style between 1745 and 1753. Prince William's was burned by the British in 1779 during the Revolutionary War. In 1826 it was rebuilt.

About Dawna Moore Photography

Dawna Moore Photography

Coastal & Travel Photography | Prints & Wall Art I believe travel broadens the mind and feeds the soul. I love to photograph the grand scenics of the beaches and marshes at sunrise and sunset and the historic, cultural, and architectural details of the towns and cities along the seacoast. Living in the small town beach community of Amelia Island on the East Coast of Florida, I'm inspired by the sound of the waves crashing, smelling the salty sea air and the pure joy of being able to dig my toes in the sand while searching for sharks teeth along the water's edge. Through my photography, I strive to capture that same sense of wonder we feel when exploring the big, wide world beyond our windows along with bringing a feeling of peace...
