Built in 1889 for the Comtesse de Montjoye, wife of a distinguished French nobleman, the design for the home was originally sketched out for the Comtesse by Henry Flagler, a founder of Standard Oil Company and builder of many of St. Augustine's historic buildings including the Ponce de Leon Hotel / Flagler College.
