The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist was built back in 1873. It was dedicated on April 30 1876, by the Most Reverend James Roosevelt Bayley, who was the Archbishop of Baltimore. The spires were added in 1896. Previous to the current building there were two other churches for the congregation of the church.
